Advice on a second hand Volkswagen?

I am offered a car in a private sale at £24k (the current new price is £36k).
The car has done 10,000 miles, one owner and is 18 months old. It has a three year warranty etc.

I am told I can get a VW main dealer to buy it for me and they will add £4k to the price.

I am also told that I can buy the vehicle direct and simply get the local dealer to honour the warranty. What would you recommend?

Why would you pay the extra £4k to a VW dealer? But if it originally came with a three-year warranty, only the balance of that will remain and that will depend on how it has been serviced.
