Coronavirus: All driving tests cancelled in DVSA U-turn

The Driver and Vehicle Standards Agency (DVSA) has announced that theory tests are suspended for one month and driving tests are suspended for up to three months because of the unfolding coronavirus situation. However, key workers can still take driving tests.

The organisation says it will rebook all tests, free of charge, as soon as possible. Candidates with a test already booked will be sent an email with a new date and time as soon as it's been rebooked.

Previously, the DVSA had advised that it was business as normal for the driving and theory test, unless you, someone you live with, your instructor or someone they live with has coronavirus symptoms.

Coronavirus symptoms include a high temperature and a new, continuous cough. If you live alone and experience these symptoms, the NHS advises you to stay at home for seven days from when they first appeared.

If you live with someone else, you should stay at home for 14 days from their symptoms first showing.

If this happens, the DVSA had said you should not turn up for a driving or theory test. You would be able to cancel or rearrange your test free of charge, even at short notice.

You could change your appointment online via the DVSA website if it’s more than three working days away. If it’s within the next three working days, you’d need to email the DVSA directly.
