Rare Shelby GT500 Fastback to be auctioned

H&H Classics is set to auction off 89 classic, collector and performance cars including a super rare 1967 Shelby GT500 Fastback.

The auction will be held at the Pavilion Gardens in Buxton, starting at 1pm on 26 April 2023.

This year marks the 30th anniversary of H&H Classics and the collection boasts a range of vehicles from over nine decades of motoring history, including the oldest vehicle in the collection, a magnificent 1926 Rolls-Royce 20hp Doctor’s Coupe, estimated at £35,000 to £40,000.

Those looking for an American muscle icon are in for a treat. The genuine ‘matching numbers’ 1967 Shelby GT500 Fastback has been through an exhaustive and photographically documented restoration. Refinished in its original Nightmist Blue with Black knitted décor upholstery, the GT500 is estimated at £130,000 - £160,000.

For those looking for exclusivity, a 1978 Kougar Sport Jaguar is on offer. It is the fifth Kougar Sports car ever manufactured and the first to be supplied new to the United Kingdom. The car boasts a 4.2 litre Jaguar straight-six engine with a four-speed manual transmission and has benefitted from a recent mechanical overhaul.

One car that caught our eye was the 1984 Ford Sierra XR4i with just 37,000 miles on the clock. A rare car at the time, precious few of these survive in this condition. It's expected to command between £12,000 and £14,000.

Another highlight of the auction is a ‘garage find’ 1960 Facel Vega HK500, offered with ‘no reserve’. It is one of only 98 UK supplied cars and has been residing in a garage in north Wales for almost 50 years.

For those on more of a budget, there's a very tidy 1989 Volkswagen Scirocco Scala (below) with no reserve. Finished in Paprika Red, the VW Scirocco is said by the vendor to drive and perform well with a good interior and exterior and no known faults.

H&H Classics has successfully sold over 15,000 cars and motorcycles since its foundation in 1993 and is one of only five auction houses to have ever sold an individual car for more than $10 million.

The auction takes place at the Pavilion Gardens in Buxton, with viewing available on Tuesday 25 April. Bidding can be done online, via telephone or in person. To view all the cars going under the hammer or for more information, visit the H&H Classics website.

Ask HJ

What is the best way to sell my Jaguar restoration project?

I have a Jaguar XK150 restoration project which I want to sell. The car is quite sound - the engine turns OK, while the engine, gearbox and chassis all have matching numbers. I've also got many nice spares, but it does need a lot of work. What would be the best way to sell it?
A specialist classic car auction would be a sensible way to achieve a fair price. We'd recommend Anglia Car Auctions, Silverstone Auctions or online alternatives like The Market or Collecting Cars.
