05-10-2014:
Very significant problems with 2011 DS3 1.6 THP 1.6 at 30k miles, just out of 3 year warranty: Required new fuel pump, FoC under 5 year fuel pump warranty. Also needed new turbo water cooling pump not covered by warranty. And 6.5 hours labour required using a special tool to remove carbon from inside engine inlet valves, etc. But dealer could not get the tool to do this so suggested complete engine strip down involving new timing chain and 16.5 hours labour. Estimating a £3,000 bill. Citroen garage had evidently not heard of Terraclean (or could not get Terraclean).

8k mile 2011 DS3 VTi suffered 'immobiliser active' fault traced to COM2000 unit, replacement bill is £513.66.
19-04-2016:
Misfire reported from 2013/63 DS3 1.6 THP, thought to be due to a stretched timing chain. Stutters when accelerating, over- revs and is noisy despite correct services within intervals. See 5-10-2014 (above).
02-07-2016:
Report that 2013 Citroen DS3 1.6THP Sport needed a new timing chain, tensioners and clutch at 30,000 miles then subsequently developed a burning smell. Probably the new clutch.
10-08-2016:
Problems reported with used 15k mile 2012/61 Citroen DS3 1.6THP 150. Within 2 weeks of purchase the EML light came on and other issues include erratic idle, cooling fan contantly on regardless of eng temp and strange intermittent grinding/whining noise when stopped after a fast drive - eg when stoppin on a slip road coming off a dual carriageway (probably the waterpump for the turbo). Selling dealer identified misfire on cylinders 1 and 4 and replaced 4 plugs and 2 coils, but erratic idle and intermittent noise are still present. Plugging in an OBD reader says there is now a misfire on cylinders 1 and 3.
26-04-2017:
Report of timing chain trouble for a second time with a 2013/63 Citroen DS3 1.6 THP at 40,000 miles.

Timing chain failure reported in 2013 Citroen DS3 1.6THP at 47,000 miles. Wrecked the engine and Citroen offered to pay 70% of the cost of a new engine.
03-10-2017:
Impending timing chain failure reported for a third time with same 2013/63 DS3 1.6THP as 26-4-2017 at 57,000 miles. Big mileage in between April and October 2017. Was the oil changed?
31-10-2017:
Report of factory applied black paint on roof of white 2014 DS3 peeling off in patches despite GardX having been applied when new. Appears to be a manufacturing fault with the roof paint bonding. But both Citroen and GardX refuse to acknowledge this is an issue despite many other cars on web forums having the same problem.

Report of water ingress to fusebox of 2011 DS3, knocking out the DRLs. Dealer quoted £2,000 for a major fix or £560 for a minor fix. Local garage identified source of water as the screenwasher pump and replaced it for £60.

26-08-2018:
Report of long saga after a noise was heard in a 2015 DS3 1.6 Sport at 30,000 miles. Car had been bought new, serviced annually, takin to supplying dealer for its 3rd service and first MoT. Dealer thought noise was from timing chain and replaced it. Did not solve the problem and since then replaced replaced dephaser, ECU, wiring loom, camshafts, manifold. They also took the catalytic converter off to see if there was a blockage and there wasn’t. Citroen technical visted the garage twice and thought there was a blockage between the oil pump and the varitor and that the car needed a new engine. An engine was ordered and was fitted 2 weeks later, but this did not solve the issue. On 9-8-2018 Citroen took the car to its HQ at Coventry. Owner has been unable to obtain further details since then. Is in a loan car from the supplying dealer. £10,000 spent on warranty work so far. Car only worth £7,000.
27-09-2018:
Issue with 2015 DS3 1.6 Sport raised on 26-8-2018 finally resolved after a total of 5 weekd, during which the owner was supplied with a courtesy car for the entire time.

DS3 updated with revised engines
Two new Euro 6 diesel engines will become available - the BlueHDi 120 and BlueHDi 100. Both engines will offer more power and lower emissions. Thanks to the use of leading-edge technology, including SCR (Selective Catalytic Reduction), NOx emissions are cut by 90%, while CO2 emissions are cut by up to 4 per cent.
The BlueHDi 100 will produce just 79g/km of CO2. The BlueHDi 120 emits 94g/km of CO2. As well as reducing emissions and delivering greater levels of performance, both engines improve fuel efficiency, boasting figures of up to 94mpg for the BlueHDi 100 and up to 78mpg for the BlueHDi 120 version.
A new petrol engine also becomes available in some markets (to be confirmed for the UK) in the form of a Euro 6-compliant PureTech e-VTi 82 ETG. Delivering 69mpg over a combined cycle and producing just 95g/km of CO2, this engine is available with the automated manual ETG (Efficient Tronic Gearbox). The 5-speed ‘box features a creep function and optimised software mapping, which adjusts power delivery for smoother starts and a better driving experience.
All DS3 versions from July production will feature state-of-the-art headlights. Combining LED and Xenon modules with new sequential indicators, the new headlights represent a world first for the brand. A new range of personalisation options will be available with the choice of a laser-etched dashboard strip and a screen-printed rear window. Colour options have also been enhanced, with the addition of Pearl White as a body colour on DS3 plus the availability of new 17-inch diamond-cut alloy wheels on selected models.
Selected versions will be available in the UK (from July production) with ‘Active City Brake’. This is an automatic braking system that helps to prevent low-speed collisions. This is achieved thanks to a short-range radar, mounted at the top of the windscreen, which identifies slow moving or stationary vehicles on the road ahead. If the vehicle is driving at speeds lower than 20mph, the sensor activates the brakes to avoid a potential collision.
