Twisted to launch Suzuki Jimny conversion

Twisted Automotive, the Yorkshire-based vehicle modification specialist, has announced that it will be launching a Suzuki Jimny.

It marks the first time in the company's 21-year history that it will carry out full conversions on a vehicle other than the classic Land Rover Defender.

Indicative pricing for the Suzuki Jimny, redefined by Twisted, is sub-£50k+ VAT. Alongside full builds, Twisted has confirmed that it will tailor customers' vehicles to meet their specific needs.

The company's initial offering will be the two-seater Jimny Light Commercial Vehicle (LCV), but additional variants haven't been ruled out.

The base Jimny LCV comes with a 1.5-litre engine with 5-speed manual transmission, an 863-litre load area compartment with a flat floor and safety cargo partition, air conditioning, ALLGRIP PRO selectable 4WD with low transfer gear, Dual Sensor Brake Support and cruise control.

Specific technical details of the Twisted modifications will be released as the development vehicles are signed off later in 2023.

Twisted has also been working with Front Runner to supply and fit accessories to the Suzuki Jimny (as well as Twisted's staple offering, the classic Land Rover Defender).

Charles Fawcett, Founder and Managing Director of Twisted, expressed his enthusiasm for the project, stating, "The much-loved Suzuki Jimny is a pure, proper little offroader. It's evocative, engaging, and endearing. It's almost a miniature Defender with similar architecture, driveline and analogue feel."

Fawcett went on to explain that the Jimny is one of the very few vehicles still in production with the same driving essence as when its predecessors were launched over 40 years ago.

"The Suzuki Jimny feels like a natural addition to the Twisted stable and will appeal to anti-ordinary people of all ages that want to inject fun into their day-to-day driving," explained Fawcett. "We're raring to work on what we've nicknamed the 'Little Twisted'."

Best petrol tow car for £10,000?

I am currently running a 2007 Land Rover Defender. I love it, but towing a medium sized caravan brings consumption down to 17mpg and for normal use 28mpg. The cost of diesel, tax and maintenance is becoming onerous. Also, clean air zones make the vehicle no longer practical for certain areas of the country. I'm thinking of downgrading to a tiny Eriba caravan (kerb weight 750kg) therefore I need the most economic 4x4 petrol tow car. I was thinking of a Suzuki Jimny 2010 (1030 kg kerb weight) Any ideas for a compact petrol 4x4 enabled small car, capable of towing, say, a 750kg braked trailer/caravan? My budget is around £10,000 for an old workhorse.
The Suzuki Jimny is a very good off-roader but it's regarded as quite a poor tow car by those who test or use them. It's not particularly stable and secure even with a relatively light caravan due to its short wheelbase and tall body, so we'd advise against it. We'd be looking at something like a Suzuki Vitara or Dacia Duster, both of which are available with proper four-wheel drive and decent at towing.
