Volkswagen T-Cross 2024: Prices, specs and release date

  • New Volkswagen T-Cross small SUV improved for 2024
  • Mid-life facelift brings tweaked looks and better interior quality
  • Infotainment upgraded and digital instrument display now standard
  • UK release in spring 2024 with prices starting from around £24,000

The new Volkswagen T-Cross has received a mid-life facelift to keep it competitive in an ever-growing sector full of appealing rivals.

The new Volkswagen T-Cross is VW’s smallest and most city-friendly SUV, sitting below the Volkswagen T-Roc and Volkswagen Tiguan. The 2024 Volkswagen T-Cross small SUV has been boosted with sharper styling on the outside and improved quality on the inside.

The new Volkswagen T-Cross also gets some bright new colour choices including the crisp Grape Yellow seen here.

VW hopes this will fend off numerous rivals including the popular Ford Puma, the Nissan Juke and the excellent Toyota Yaris Cross.

2024 Volkswagen T-Cross prices and release date

The new Volkswagen T-Cross will be released for reservations towards the end of 2023. An online configurator will be launched towards the end of the year too, ready for deliveries beginning in spring 2024.

New Volkswagen T-Cross model choices will include everyday Life grade, more upmarket Style grade and the sportier range-topping R-Line seen here.

Prices for the current Volkswagen T-Cross start from around £23,500. Despite the many enhancements with this facelift, the new Volkswagen T-Cross will "still be offered at a very attractive base price," says the firm. Expect new Volkswagen T-Cross prices to start from around £24,000.

2024 Volkswagen T-Cross styling, interior and technology

The new Volkswagen T-Cross has updated styling courtesy of new front and rear lights. They have integrated LED headlights (instead of the halogen lights of the outgoing Volkswagen T-Cross), LED daytime running lights and LED rear light clusters. High-tech IQ.Light LED matrix headlights are available for the first time on the new Volkswagen T-Cross.

The new Volkswagen T-Cross also has tweaks to the bumpers, and is available in three new colours. According to VW, Grape Yellow is 'crisp and sporty', Clear Blue Metallic is 'elegant and friendly' and Kings Red Metallic is 'vivid and striking.'

The big improvements for the new Volkswagen T-Cross come inside. The dashboard is now higher-quality thanks to an upholstered design that gives a more premium soft-touch feel. Trim inlays are "significantly higher-quality" and door trims have been improved too.

The new Volkswagen T-Cross has a new free-standing central infotainment display. Regular cars have an 8.0-inch touchscreen and higher grades have a 9.2-inch display. All new Volkswagen T-Cross feature a digital instrument panel instead of old-fashioned analogue dials.

All new Volkswagen T-Cross have standard manual air conditioning. The Air Care Climatronic system is available as an option. The touch-sliders are also back-lit so they are easier to use at night.

In terms of equipment, full details will be confirmed nearer the UK market release. Bosses say the new Volkswagen T-Cross Life has a standard multifunction camera, a new style of 16-inch alloy and a leather multifunction steering wheel. Style will add more elegance and R-Line adds the sporty accents.

The new Volkswagen T-Cross will measure around 4100mm long, 1760mm wide and 1570mm tall. As well as offering a spacious interior for five people, boot space is generous too, with up to 455 litres of space – that’s significantly larger than family cars such as the Volkswagen Golf.

The rear bench seat can be slid back and forth by 140mm. In its rearmost position, which maximises passenger space, the boot measures a still-decent 385 litres. With the seats folded, the new Volkswagen T-Cross boot has a 1281-litre volume.

The new Volkswagen T-Cross has an improved maximum load for the optional removeable towbar, up from 55kg to 75kg. This means it’s now able to carry heavier e-bikes on a towbar-mounted carrier.

2024 Volkswagen T-Cross engines, performance and fuel economy

The new Volkswagen T-Cross engines have not yet been detailed in full by VW, but it confirms the range will continue to draw from its TSI petrol engine line-up. There will not be a new Volkswagen T-Cross diesel.

The entry-level engine in the new Volkswagen T-Cross is likely to be the three-cylinder turbo 1.0-litre TSI in 95ps form, paired with a five-speed manual gearbox. It will average around 49mpg, with CO2 emissions from 130g/km. Expect 0-62mph performance in around 11.5 seconds.

The more popular new Volkswagen T-Cross engine will be the 1.0 TSI 110. With 110PS, 0-62mph acceleration will drop to around 10.5 seconds, while a standard six-speed manual gearbox means official economy will be closely matched – and maybe even better on the motorway. This engine will offer an optional seven-speed DSG automatic.

The top-spec new Volkswagen T-Cross R-Line may be offered with a 1.5-litre four-cylinder turbo engine, producing 150PS. This TSI EVO engine has a standard seven-speed DSG automatic for 0-62mph in 8.5 seconds, yet its inherent efficiency means it may still average 47mpg, with CO2 emissions of around 135g/km.

The new Volkswagen T-Cross is a front-wheel drive SUV, with no all-wheel drive versions available. The mechanical setup will be the same as today’s model, so it will feel similar to drive.

The new Volkswagen T-Cross will be available with an enhanced adaptive cruise control system, called Travel Assist. This speeds up and slows down according to traffic ahead, but also uses speed limit signs to automatically alter the speed. It can handle bends and roundabouts too, while models with a DSG automatic have automatic stop and go functionality.

The new Volkswagen T-Cross Travel Assist option makes it one of the only small SUVs on sale to be offered with such a feature-packed adaptive cruise control system.

What is clever about the new Volkswagen T-Cross Travel Assist option?

The new Volkswagen T-Cross offers the Travel Assist cruise control system as an option. This controls speed according to both traffic ahead and changing speed limits, and also slows down for corners and roundabouts.

Why is the new Volkswagen T-Cross being shown now?

The current Volkswagen T-Cross has already sold out in major markets in Europe. This is why the new Volkswagen T-Cross is being revealed now, so customers can get an early glimpse ahead of placing a reservation later this year.
