The new Vauxhall Corsa Hybrid is the first ever hybrid version of the firm’s best-selling small car, which aims to broaden the British firm’s electrified new car choice.

Combining a 1.2-litre turbo petrol engine with an electric motor and automatic gearbox, the new Vauxhall Corsa Hybrid promise 20% better overall fuel economy and a good amount of engine-off, pure electric driving in cities.

The simple mild hybrid tech means the new Vauxhall Corsa Hybrid is affordable too – and significantly cheaper than the Vauxhall Corsa Electric pure EV.

Part of the refreshed small car line-up, the new Vauxhall Corsa Hybrid will take on pure hybrid alternative such as the Toyota Yaris and Honda Jazz. The Renault Clio is available as a hybrid too.

The new Vauxhall Corsa Hybrid will also challenge other mild hybrid small cars such as the Hyundai i20 and Suzuki Swift Sport.

2024 Vauxhall Corsa Hybrid prices and release date

The new Vauxhall Corsa Hybrid is on sale now. It has been released as part of the updated Vauxhall Corsa range, as Vauxhall aims to capitalise on the demise of the Ford Fiesta and retain its position as the UK’s favourite small car.

New Vauxhall Corsa Hybrid prices start from £22,890. It is offered in entry-level Design trim, plus sporty GS and lavishly-equipped Ultimate grades.

The new Vauxhall Corsa Hybrid 1.2T 100 Design costs £2365 more than a regular non-hybrid version with a manual gearbox. However, compared to the Vauxhall Corsa 1.2T 100 Design auto, the difference narrows to £635 – and the 20% better fuel economy will soon start to deliver day-to-day savings.

2024 Vauxhall Corsa Hybrid styling, interior and technology

The new Vauxhall Corsa Hybrid shares the latest Vauxhall ‘Vizor’ front grille with other facelifted models. This makes it look surprisingly more modern and contemporary.

The effect is reinforced on new Vauxhall Corsa Hybrid GS models, which have a black griffin logo and Vizor frame, along with contrast black roof and windscreen pillars and diamond-cut gloss black 17-inch alloy wheels.

At the rear, the new Vauxhall Corsa Hybrid has a cleaner look with ‘CORSA’ lettering on the bootlid. GS and Ultimate models have LED rear lights, to go with the LED front fog lights – although even entry-level Design models have dazzlingly bright LED headlights.

Inside, all new Vauxhall Corsa Hybrid models feature a 10.0-inch touchscreen infotainment system. This uses updated hardware and software, so it runs faster than earlier Corsa models. Both Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are standard.

The new Vauxhall Corsa Hybrid also features the latest safety assist tech, which includes a driver drowsiness alert, speed sign recognition and lane departure warning with lane-keep assist. Autonomous emergency braking with pedestrian detection is standard, too.

The new Vauxhall Corsa Hybrid has the same 309-litre boot as other petrol-engined models – usefully larger than the 267-litre boot on the Vauxhall Corsa Electric. The ‘self-charging’ battery is mounted under the front passenger seat, so no luggage space is lost.

Meanwhile, new Vauxhall Corsa Hybrid Ultimate models get a heated steering wheel, heated seats, keyless entry and start plus IntelliLux adaptive LED Matrix headlights.

2024 Vauxhall Corsa Hybrid engines, performance and fuel economy

The new Vauxhall Corsa Hybrid uses 48V mild hybrid tech that combines a 1.2-litre three-cylinder turbo engine with an electric motor integrated into the six-speed dual-clutch automatic gearbox. The engine is available in 100PS and 136PS guise.

A variable geometry turbo boosts low-rpm performance while a belt-driven starter combines with the e-motor to start the engine from cold and also restart the engine quickly – and seamlessly – while driving.

The electric motor produces an additional 28PS and maximum torque of 55Nm. Its instant power delivery will make the new Vauxhall Corsa Hybrid feel more responsive and should mask any lag from the turbocharged engine.

The new Vauxhall Corsa Hybrid is able to drive for short distances on electric power alone – such as when maneuvering or at city speeds below 18mph. The lithium ion battery has a usable capacity of 0.43kWh. It is charged automatically under braking, so doesn’t need to be plugged in.

The 100PS version is 20% more fuel economical than an equivalent Corsa automatic, averaging up to 62.8mpg. This diesel-like fuel economy is combined with CO2 emissions from just 102g/km.

What sort of hybrid is the new Vauxhall Corsa Hybrid?

The new Vauxhall Corsa Hybrid is known as a mild hybrid. It uses 48V technology to extend the engine’s stop-start operation and allow a limited degree of pure electric running at slow speed. The electric motor also assists the engine when accelerating, to improve fuel efficiency.

What new Vauxhall Corsa Hybrid models are available?

The new Vauxhall Corsa Hybrid follows the latest simplified Vauxhall trim strategy. Design is the core grade, with GS offering a sportier appearance and Ultimate coming with plentiful standard equipment.

Is the new Vauxhall Corsa Hybrid well-equipped?

The new Vauxhall Corsa Hybrid comes with a good amount of standard equipment. All models feature alloy wheels, a 10.0-inch touchscreen with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, along with LED headlights, rear parking sensors and, of course, the hybrid engine’s automatic gearbox.
