Ford Galaxie 500

In the UK we think of the Ford Galaxy as being a large, dull MPV often used by taxi firms like Addison Lee. Americans think of something entirely different though – a giant 1960s monster typically powered by a V8 engine. The first generation was offered with a power-folding hard top roof, something largely regarded as a modern invention.

The car pictured isn’t a series one version, however. It’s a 1963 Galaxie 500, named after 500 miles NASCAR races. Effectively it was the performance version of the Galaxie in the same way that a Focus ST is the performance version of a regular hatchback Focus.
